Walt | General Contractor

Now that the Portrait Project is on hiatus until next summer, I decided to jump into another little personal project. I'm starting a new series documenting individuals who use their hands for a living, as opposed to sitting in front of a computer all day (like yours truly). In order to narrow the topic a bit, I decided to focus on folks who incorporate creative or artistic elements into their work.  Without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to my first reluctant but ultimately willing subject, Walt.

I've known Walt for about four years now. He's a general contractor and owner of Artcraft Construction. Walt has done countless jobs at my household and, without a doubt, raises construction to an art form.  He is meticulous and has an incredible eye for design and detail.  I'm pretty anal about any design decisions made in my household but have reached a point where i just tell Walt to pick whatever he thinks is best because I have complete trust in his aesthetic and craftsmanship. When he's not working, he spends his time restoring his beautiful boat docked in the Emeryville Marina. Although he's not a fan of being in front of a camera, he let me tag along this past weekend to capture some images of him working on the boat.
